Just recently, we received word that Energy Suspension has added new motor mounts to their lineup. These particular mounts are intended for 1964-1977 V8 Ford vehicles including Fairlanes, Granadas, Mustangs, Rancheros, and Torinos.

But these aren’t your typical OE replacement motor mounts.

Energy Suspension says that you’ll get more power to the ground while protecting your drivetrain thanks to their Hyper-Flex Performance polyurethane (more on that later). These mounts are made with zinc-plated metal components for durability. Energy Suspension also tells us that they were designed because of the OE motor mounts’ common problems.

“Like all of our Performance Polyurethane components, our motor mounts are a low-cost high-value upgrade to your vehicle. These motor mounts will help to ensure controlled toque and motor stabilization in high torque and horsepower motors” says Kyle Martin, Marketing Manager for Energy Suspension. “Our proprietary Hyper-Flex Polyurethane components deliver better performance, are more durable, and are a great value!”

While the motor mounts are said to work on a wide variety of Ford applications, Energy Suspension tested them in-factory on the following:

So why is it so important to choose quality motor mounts in your Mustang (or other performance Ford)? The most obvious function of a motor mount is to secure the engine in place, absorbing noise and vibration. In stock applications, motor mounts tend to be soft to create the most comfortable experience for passengers, potentially losing a bit of power in the process. Typically, in performance applications, stock motor mounts are replaced with less cushioned versions, putting that lost power back into the drivetrain. This makes the ride just a bit rougher (if that bothers you in a performance car, buy a Prius!).

Energy Suspension has long been the go-to for polyurethane anything for your Ford. The team at Energy Suspension has been working on their Hyper-Flex polyurethane for over 20 years, formulating and perfecting it. They kept three words in mind when developing the formula: performance, durability, and appearance. The company calls the resulting product “Hyper-Flex,” a component that has been used on Energy’s products and awarded 9 United States patents.

Believe it or not, polyurethane is used just about everywhere and anywhere in factory vehicles. It’s used in place of otherwise heavier materials to increase fuel economy, and also offers increased comfort, corrosion resistance, insulation, and sound absorption. It can be used in everything from seat foam and bumpers to steering wheels and windshield coating.

Clearly, polyurethane is available in several different forms, leaving plenty of room for customization for performance applications. Energy Suspension takes full advantage of this fact, carefully selecting firmness (also known as durometer) for specific applications on individual vehicles’ suspension and frames.

Energy Suspension has dubbed the Hyper Flex polyurethane “HYPERformance” – a performance polyurethane that “delivers an amazing amount of performance to any vehicle that runs with it”.

Because of the material’s durability, things like salt, oil, and other contaminates that tend to do damage on rubber components, lose their corrosive power. Additionally, weight and torque forces tend to compress rubber permanently, while polyurethane bounces back time after time.

According to Energy Suspension, their “durable Hyper-Flex components do not rot or deteriorate from exposure to oils and undercar chemicals or atmospheric conditions like smog and ozone.”

When rubber does ultimately break down and deteriorate, it can lead to mushy handling and a poor steering response – a huge no-no on a performance vehicle. Replacing those parts with polyurethane extends the life of the part and eliminates that issue.

Energy Suspension’s Hyper-Flex polyurethane is offered in a variety of durometers for the firmness (or softness) that your individual application requires. The components have been performance tested and race proven, according to Energy Suspension, and is used on all products in the lineup that require a higher level of performance and durability.
